Mowana Engineers is a Level 1 BBBEE company, based in Bellville, specialising in transportation engineering (roads, structures, and transport planning/traffic engineering) and operating throughout South Africa and Africa. Innovation
Chapman's Peak Drive is notorious for rocks falling onto the road. To replace high maintenance catch fences a canopy structure is proposed. Using specialised software, a portal structure has been designed over a portion of the road to absorb the impact and to direct rocks over the road towards the sea, to replace existing safety nets.
Sustainability
The roundabout at the Buitengracht Road entrance to the Waterfront was converted to two signalised intersections. The design and implementation of the conversion was done in such a manner that these busy intersections remained open to pedestrians and vehicles during the full period of the project.
Competency
A rail over road bridge on the Sishen-Saldanha rail line was damaged by an abnormal load travelling on the road beneath, forcing the closure of the rail line. A temporary bridge was designed and installed, allowing the bridge to reopen 12 days after the damage occurred.
